The Swedish Mortgages Market - Report 2022
A brief description of general economic trends in Sweden is followed by a discussion of developments in housing construction. The second half of 2021 was marked by the recovery of the economy after Covid-19, while the first half of 2022 was marked by extensive disruption of global value chains and Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
It is also observed that housing prices have been increasing for a number of years, but the increasing inflation and mortgage interest rates during 2022 have resulted in decreasing prices for both tenant-owned apartments and single-family homes.
Household indebtedness is outlined, as are implemented and proposed measures to counteract high indebtedness. Finally, an overview is provided of the main forms of borrowing for mortgage institutions.
